IMMIGRANTS & REFUGEES

Immigrant Integration

Immigrant Integration is the process through which newcomers become more engaged in their community. It includes linguistic integration (learning English), economic integration (getting a job & income), and civic integration (making friends and participating in your community). SBCAE schools and colleges help you get connected. You are welcome here!

Linguistic Integration

Learning English is an important step towards participating more fully in your community, finding a job, or getting an education.SBCAE Adult Schools and Community Colleges offer a welcoming environment for immigrants and refugees from all over the world. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will help you improve your English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. You will also learn more about US culture through topics like the healthcare system, education system, community resources, civic engagement, and more. Many adult schools also offer citizenship classes that help you prepare for the US naturalization exam.

Economic Integration

Career Education classes teach you the skills you need to find a job or a better job. Check out the Career Pathway Tool to find the right class or program for you.

NOVA and work2future, our Workforce Development Board partners, can help you with career exploration, resume writing, interview skills, job applications, and more!

Social Integration

You will make friends from all over the world in our classrooms! Teachers and staff can help you find a volunteer opportunity in the community, or refer you to one of our partner organizations for supportive services like housing assistance, health insurance sign ups, immigration legal services, childcare, and more!
